In April of 1993, Jam & Spoon released an LP that became the first artist album example of a major new electronic music sub-genre. ‘Tripomatic Fairytales 2001’ proved to be a success for SONY Music and through its singles (not least ‘Stella’), was instrumental in touching off the trance music scene.

A PhD Scholarship in the name of electronic musician and techno DJ Richie Hawtin, aka Plastikman, has now been unveiled at the University of Huddersfield. Applications for the scholarship, titled The Richie Hawtin PhD Scholarship in Electronic Music, Cultures and Production, are now being taken up until 10 February to start in September 2023. The winning applicant will be selected by the university with guidance from Richie, who will also offer tutorial support throughout the scholarship.
