We Love Ibiza: How it all began…

For the first time, the authentic history and spirit of Ibiza are recounted in an original way, illustrated in a unique comic-book style. Researched, verified, and illustrated by Ibiza resident, author, and Ibizan historian Aura Gold. ‘We Love Ibiza’ is a journey through the island’s colourful and storied history, from ancient civilisations and mythical beginnings to pirates, hippies, DJs, and the rise of LGBT club culture.

It’s a 192-page comic book full of nostalgia, chaos, and true stories up until 1979. It includes the birth of the infamous West End and the opening of the first four big clubs: Pacha, Es Paradis, Amnesia, and KU.

The book, the first of a forthcoming five-part series, is researched through in-person interviews with Ibiza’s most significant contemporary historical figures. From those vital people behind the scenes, including ‘counterculture’s trailblazers, musicians, and entrepreneurs.’ All stories are based on people’s real-life memories, the very people who were there creating the history and setting the scene for us today. All drawings are based on original photos where available, with the objective to keep things as authentic as possible.

We all know about Pacha and Amnesia... but what about the Bee Gees and Lulu in the ‘70s, who could regularly be found in San Antonio bars singing? Also, when the blue circus was in town, you could find Hollywood actors playing the clown and the ringmaster…”

Book one’s story kicks off millions of years ago and winds its way through smugglers, artists, ravers, and dreamers — showing how the island’s magic evolved into a global phenomenon. For some, it’ll be a wild walk down memory lane; for others, it’s the possible Ibiza history lesson you never knew you needed.

Author Aura Gold is an Ibiza resident, the owner and founder of Make Me A Comic, ‘the leading custom comic studio worldwide’, who has written and designed over 5,000 pieces of comic artwork to date. She has worked with many high-profile clients, including Microsoft.

‘We Love Ibiza: How it all began…’ has been in the works since 2022, with thousands of hours of energy and love poured into it. It aims to become a treasured piece of Ibiza memorabilia for fans and newcomers alike.
