Continuing a run of releases that has seen Ronnie Spiteri make moves to establish himself as one of house music’s most exciting producers, he delivers ‘Power’ – a summer track-in-the-making courtesy of Danny Howard’s Nothing Else Matters imprint. A demonstration of his ability to traverse the broad spectrum of house music, the track sits in contrast to his recent release on Knee Deep In Sound – a club-focused EP that saw ‘Peace’ dropped by Carl Cox and Jamie Jones during their B2B at the UNVRS opening party.

Ronnie Spiteri: “I think it’s important to be able to play for different audiences in different settings, so with ‘Power’, it was all about making an anthem and not just a club track – something that would cross over and sound great on radio or in a festival setting.”

Lining up a number of releases for the coming months across labels including Altra Moda and Bandidos, Spiteri’s work ethic is driven by a passion for the craft and the potent experiences of raves during his formative years. His productions convey an understanding of the elements that make dance music special – not just in the studio, but on the dancefloor itself.

Ronnie Spiteri: “It sounds clichéd, but once I had the right idea, the track almost wrote itself. The combination of the vocal hook with that big powerful piano riff is a timeless combination – an old school flavour but refined in a style that feels current and fresh.”

Returning to the scene after a period of recalibration, with top-level DJ support and a monthly Spotify listener count that has ballooned to over 500,000, this renewed confidence in his own productions is also a reminder that the best work is collaborative, and the story behind the track is no different.

Pointing towards the crucial role of a label A&R, and the value that relationship can have for a producer, the A&R process helped bring the track to life; noting that quality feedback and placing trust in that advice was part of the creative process for Ronnie, choosing to lean on Danny Howard helped define the track’s final form.

Ronnie Spiteri: “Danny’s support on this new run of music means a lot, and his input on this release was crucial. I sent him a folder of tracks and the process was very much a conversation, a collaborative approach – he is a real A&R who helped get this track to a point where when a DJ plays it, it lands in exactly the way I intended it to. The role of an A&R is so important, they’re a second set of ears who can spot things you miss, and when you’ve got advice from someone like Danny who is helping break tracks every week on national radio, you’d be silly not to listen to it.”

Ronnie Spiteri ‘Power’ is out now on Nothing Else Matters.
