DJ Dave Beer, the driving force behind the Back To Basics night in Leeds, is about to release his debut album, ‘What Goes Around’, alongside his long-term collaborators The Blessed. This deeply personal and uplifting collection of tracks reflects his journey through hardship and healing, transforming near-fatal adversity into a testament to the power of music and the human spirit.
The next single in the lead-up to the album is ‘Community’. Formulated on a breakbeat bedding, it’s all about coming together as a community - something that’s always been a part of the Basics ethos, and that took on renewed relevance during the pandemic a few years ago.
The track is given a high-octane remix by Utah Saints, the duo who are also from Leeds in the north of England - the same city as Dave and the Basics family. The Utahs know Dave from the early days of Leeds nightlife, and have turned in a hands-in-the-air festival-friendly mix that aims to cause havoc on all manner of dancefloors this coming summer.
Dave had a health scare last year, nearly dying of cancer. He’s now in remission and has converted to Buddhism, a state of mind that’s allowed him to look back on his career with a fresh perspective.
