David Penn x Vintage Culture x Raphaella

The new collaboration from David Penn, Vintage Culture and Raphaella, ‘Just Stay The Night’ kicks off Defected’s 2025 release schedule, previously appearing exclusively on the label’s 25th-anniversary limited edition vinyl boxset.

Building on his relationship with the London label is Spaniard David Penn, a Defected House Master whose label catalogue includes house cuts like 2020’s ‘Nobody’ featuring Dames Brown as well as remixes of Pete Heller’s ‘Big Love’, Sandy Rivera’s ‘I Can’t Stop’ and Candi Staton’s ‘Hallelujah Anyway’.

David Penn: “The decision to collaborate with Lukas (Vintage Culture) was an easy one! I sent him an idea and thankfully he loved it, so it all flowed from there. I was already working on another idea with the super-talented Raphaella, so we experimented with chopping up the vocals from that and ‘Just Stay The Night’ was born. The track works great in my sets and I’m so excited to get it out there for the world to enjoy now!”

David collaborates with Brazil’s Vintage Culture, a DJ Mag Top 10 artist for the past two years thanks to his tech sound that has been heard on stages from Tomorrowland to Coachella; also no stranger to the label’s catalogue, his house track ‘Nightjar’ with Sonny Fodera featuring SHELLS did well.

Vintage Culture: “Working with David Penn and Raphaella was a real collaborative effort. David’s mastery of house music brought a classic energy to the track. Our work together produced something truly unique. Raphaella’s voice takes the track to another level—she added so much depth and emotion to the song. Together, we created something that feels fresh yet classic.”

Music writer and vocalist Raphaella joins with ease, having worked with the likes of MK, Sonny Fodera and Martin Solveig.

Raphaella: “I wrote and produced the vocal topline one night in my studio in East London. I’d been sent this amazing track by David I remember the first thing I immediately just hummed was the opening line of hook melody and the lyrics just came out. I wanted to write a sultry club record, where you’ve just met someone new and don’t want to hide you’re into them. It was so much fun working with the amazing David Penn and Vintage Culture, and I can’t wait to share it with everyone.”

‘Just Stay The Night’ by David Penn x Vintage Culture x Raphaella is out 31 January via Defected Records.
