Floating Points

Sam Shepherd aka Floating Points recently shared a new single, ‘Del Oro’, which is out now on Ninja Tune. Following the energy of last year's single ‘Birth4000’; this track ebbs and flows with vintage nostalgia before locking into a head-down, dancefloor-aimed groove.

As with ‘Birth4000’, the track’s artwork comes from Tokyo-based artist Akiko Nakayama. Nakayama brings her painting to life using liquids that combine and wash away, meant to represent the natural growth, change and life cycle of all things on earth. She worked alongside long-time Floating Points collaborators Hamill Industries to create the “Alive Painting” to accompany the track.

Shepherd also recently composed his first ballet for symphony orchestra and electronics, Mere Mortals, which was performed by the San Francisco Ballet in collaboration with artistic director Tamara Tojo and choreographer Aszure Barton and Hamill Industries. The ballet premiered at the San Francisco War Memorial Opera House in January, returning for another run in April ‘with all 14 shows sold out’.

Shepherd will be playing a number of dates throughout the summer and last year at Hollywood Bowl he played Mercury Prize nominated track 'Promises' for the first and only time alongside a cast of players that included Shabaka Hutchings, Kieran Hebden (Four Tet), Dan Snaith (Caribou), Kara Lis Coverdale and Hinako Omori with Miguel Atwood Ferguson conducting.

‘Del Oro’ is out now on Ninja Tune, with the 12" release dropping 14 June.
