After a production hiatus for several years whilst putting on world tours for the likes of Rihanna and Drake, among others, Sonic Soul Orchestra, aka Jean-Paul Firmin, has made a return to the dance music production arena. Now signed to Australia’s Tinted Records, JP is revamping some of his Interstate Records catalogue, fusing his ‘90s soulful house heritage with contemporary dance for a new generation of house music lovers.
Following the success of Sonic Soul Orchestra feat Colonel Abrams ‘You’re The One For Me’ (incl. Dr Packer remix), and ‘Touch Me’ feat Kathy Brown, his new single, ‘Happy People’, ramps up the feel good factor with an uplifting funky soulful groove that features the falsetto tones of Phillip Ramirez.
Other remixes come from UK producer Jay Vegas, who brings some disco sparkle to the release, adding strings and percussive drums; and Dallas’ Demarkus Lewis cooks up a deep groove that bubbles over his soulful beats.
Sonic Soul Orchestra is an English DJ/producer based in London and Los Angeles. He started his own label Interstate Records back in early 1990, along with running his own club nights, which led him to become a booking agent for NY’s DJ Disciple, Dave Camacho and vocalist Michael Watford.
In the 2000s, he began directing and managing global tours for some of the world’s biggest artists and still does today. It was during lockdown that JP became inspired to get back into making house music and now that he’s armed with a plethora of new releases and classic revamps ready to go, 2023 could be an exciting year.
