Chicago’s house producer and songwriter, Robert Owens established himself within the golden era of house as part of Fingers Inc. in the ‘80s, before his work as a solo artist propelled his status. Now he revisits chart-topping 1992 solo release, ‘I’ll Be Your Friend’, with producer Nolan on Faith.
The modern classic has seen a few different iterations over the years, but this latest collaboration with the Brighton artist aims to reinvent the track. Signature elements that made the original so arresting return with a shiny new coat; a sleek, sultry bassline creeps in as Owens’ vocals take centre stage with an almost free-time feel, before the brass stabs pierce through the record with ease.
It’s out 21 July on Faith.
