Last seen on Anjunabeats with his ‘No Words EP’ in 2018, London-born producer Mat Zo has been responsible for various additions to the Anjunabeats discography - including his 2013 debut album ‘Damage Control’, and 2011’s collaboration with Arty ‘Rebound’. From his beginnings on the label, he’s gone on to perform in the worlds of D&B, ambient, electro and beyond.
His latest production, ‘The Next Chapter’, sees its full release (following a feature on Genix’s Anjunabeats Worldwide 09). Incorporating a sample from D&B MC GQ, the track has become a staple in the DJ sets of Above & Beyond, Genix and Jody Wisternoff & James Grant.
Matan: “There was a period in the mid-2000s when trance was starting to get really dark. For 'The Next Chapter' I wanted to rekindle that dark trance energy. I added the GQ sample (of him MCing at Westfest) because it reminded me of a drum and bass roller, but in trance form.”
