James Kumo brings three original cuts to his KMusic imprint this month with Plan B co-founder DJ Spider on remix duties. The imprint plays host to material from artists like Dan Curtin, David Hausdorf and Oliver Deutschmann and now the label-head himself prepares his ‘Drifter’ EP for release on the imprint.

With a career that spans over 20 years, Kumo has had releases on underground labels including Delsin Records offshoot Ann Aimee, Metamorphic, Curle and Falkplatz amongst others.

Title track ‘Drifter’ kicks things off as celestial pads swell alongside rumbling sub bass and ethereal arpeggios before off-kilter synths and rugged industrial drums are presented by New York’s DJ Spider who steps up to deliver a darker and more dramatic aesthetic with his interpretation.

Next, ‘Evolution’ sees Kumo utilise stereo delayed chord stabs as underpinning pads create an ethereal feel.

Rounding off the package, ‘Spectro Jazz’ sees a brooding top line resonating alongside jazz-infused atmospherics and subtle background effects to create a raw, refined and hypnotic finish to the release.

It’s out now.
