Two of the Canary Islands’ finest exports, Drummer & Hanfry Martinez, team up for the ʻLooking Back / Just Danceʼ EP on Lowpitch, a label thatʼs been steadily releasing music on the duoʼs home turf since 2007. Since the launch five years ago, Lowpitch has released music and collaborations from hard-hitting artists such as Shaun Reeves and Tale Of Us as well as Spanish underground heroes like Andrew Grant and Jose De Divina.
ʻLooking Backʼ opens the release and is clearly a nod to the ‘90s era, with an infectious rolling bassline from the very beginning showing instant influence from dub techno aesthetics. A classic sounding delayed synth stab eases in to add momentum and the resultant effect is a groove driven track with a tasteful choice of elements. ʻJust Danceʼ veers into house territory with a bouncy playful bass hook, tribal percussions hits and a delicate pad, perfectly side chained to simply flutter away in the background whilst the main elements take heed of the progression. The subtle use of a delayed piano in the background adds a trippy element to the track yet maintains the driving edge. Out 19th April.
