In Liverpool, the rumour-mill has been in overdrive since the tail end of 2011 saw the famed Masque venue close its hallowed doors, with Circus and Chibuku moving over to the fabulous Camp and Furnace warehouse space on Greenland Street. Circus’ Boxing Day session was an immense success, tempered only slightly by the speed with which its spiritual home had brought down the shutters on arguably one of the UK’s best electronic dance music environments. But now, Circus is back one more time at The Masque as on Saturday 25th February the club will sign off its tenure here for a final show.
Yousef is the man who defines every facet of Circus’ enduring ethos, and he will conclude the night with the closing set in the venue’s legendary Theatre space. 2012 has started in blistering fashion for Yousef, recording a top mix at the final Store St WHP on NYD which has become an online sensation in recent weeks. With new releases on Cecille and Intec, currently touring South and Central America as well as his relentless pounding of Europe’s best clubs, a second artist album now completed (label tbc), this year is set to be even bigger for Yousef. Even with all of his global travelling, nowhere else quite brings out the best in him like it does at Circus, encapsulating the club’s varied sonic template with his final Theatre set which starts at 2.30am.
Steve Lawler returns to Circus for another one of his DJ sets. The man needs little introduction; since his explosion on the UK clubbing scene as Cream resident in the late-90s, Lawler has left an indelible mark on global electronica. His stunning ‘Lights Out’ and ‘Nubreed’ compilations for Global Underground, epic marathon Miami sessions and of course the indomitable title of ‘King of Space’ was gifted to him by the Ibiza’s clued-up natives; they all add up to his enduring standing. He’s a DJ that has been down with Circus since day one and he once again plays at what will undoubtedly be a storming closing Masque showcase as Circus enters its 10th anniversary year with considerable verve.
