After releases on Belgium's Crossfadesounds, Iceland's Moatun7 and Canada's Stasis Recordings, Theiz returns to EPM with his fifth release on the label. Theiz (Mathijs Schippers) is now some 30 years deep in the scene, having released on labels such as Eevolute, Techno-Tourist and Ear-land Recordings in the late-90s and early-00s.
He began producing again in 2015 with no pressure to release and his activity as a music journalist brought him back into contact with the music industry and now freshly motivated, he is back with this fifth release.
‘4 Loulou: Starting the Best Part of Life’ starts the EP with a low-slung distorted breakbeat and builds on pads before the 303 comes out to play with the lead melody.
The title track ‘I Said Acid’ opens with pads and a subtle use of the 303 that takes the track into ever deeper territory. ‘Struggling For Positivity’ features off-beat rhythms revolving around strings that once again gradually see the 303 come to the fore.
Last up is ‘The Bouncing Pony’ which takes the tempo up a notch as it bucks and kicks through pads and synths to round off the EP.
Theiz ‘I Said Acid EP’ is out 24 January on EPM Music.
