And on Friday 11th October Howard Donald returns to his spiritual home of Venus in Manchester, back after his set over last year’s Jubilee weekend. Howard plays a blend of sexy, funky, driving electro house, but is also known the world over for his part in one of the biggest bands in the world, Take That. Even when trotting the globe throughout the ‘90s with the band, he was never far from the party – keen to do what he loved and get behind the decks.
It could be said that it’s been harder for Howard to earn his stripes as a DJ than for an unknown. The understandable preconceptions that surround a perennial chart topper-turned-DJ mean Howard has had to try harder than most. Ben Egerton, Venus’ promotions manager, says: “We’ve wanted to get Howard back at Venus since last year’s amazing set, so this is going to be a huge night at the club. Howard is such a big star and he has got a massive Manchester following. We can’t wait to welcome him back to Venus, playing in our intimate space will be really special.”
