Danish duo Morten Trust and Mikkel Wendelboe aka Soulmagic released their soulful house track ‘Someone Like You’ this week on Strictly Rhythm. The track adds brand new lyrics, co-written with longtime Strictly Rhythm collaborator Duane Harden, and a bassline to the core musical hook from the Alicia Myers 1980s classic ‘I Wanna Thank You’.
It’s already being championed by the likes of Frankie Knuckles, Grant Nelson, Joey Negro and Mark Knight and on this release, France’s Plezier delivers an on-trend deep house revamp, replete with detuned vocal part and fussy beats. The Shapeshifters add their touch with a more straightforward housey groove and, in their ‘Du Jour’ remix, some fine bassline and vibes tomfoolery for the deeper sessions.
