Brighton based Black Key Records team up with Glaswegian DJ/producer Milton Jackson for a brand new EP backed with a remix from Andy Ash. Barry Christie AKA Milton Jackson has been at the heart of the UK’s electronic music scene since he first appeared at the age of 19 on Soletronic’s Tronicsole label back in 2000. In the intervening years he has become a driving force for quality house (and techno) and has released music through prominent labels such as Freerange, Urbantorque and Tsuba.
Black Key Records launched late in 2011 and has so far released music from the likes of Jonny Cade, Andy Ash, Chamboche, James Johnston, Ethyl and BLM to name just a few. DJ support has come from across the board with the jocks such as Huxley, Stuart Geddes and The Revenge getting behind the label from the off. The ‘Lessons Learned EP’ kicks off with ‘See The Light’, a deep and melodic slice of underground house music that fuses chunky drum programming with tightly looped vocals, high string notes and warm keys to create an organic sounding record. The second of the two original tracks comes in the shape of ‘5 Cities’, a spacious yet rich sounding production that journeys further into deep house territory with its soothing vocal licks and old school keys. The original is complimented by a remix from Andy Ash who stays true to the original character of ‘5 Cities’ but adds his own flourishes to provide a good alternative version. It’s out now.
